Advisory Groups

Windermere & Bowness Town Council have a number of internal advisory groups to advise the Council on different aspects of their work. They are not decision making bodies and any recommendations they make must be ratified by Full Council. They usually meet informally and privately and report back to full council.

Policy and Finance advisory group:
Chair: Deputy Mayor Lisa Greasley
This groups has the widest remit looking at statutory policies, HR, budget planning and grant applications. It can also be used as a discussion forum for councillors wanting to discuss an issue before it is taken to Full Council as a proposal. It meets every two months. Because the notes from these meetings are referred to in some Full Council agendas a decision was made in July 2023 to publish the notes on this website (see list to right).

Parks & Open Spaces:
Chair: Deputy Mayor Lisa Greasley
This group advises the Council on the management of the parks they  run at Langrigge, Jubilee Garden and Longlands. It also advocates for improvements to parks and open spaces managed by other organisations notably Westmorland & Furness Council. This group also oversees the civic planting schemes funded by the Council.

Orrest Head & Elleray Woods advisory group:
Chair: Deputy Mayor Lisa Greasley
This group oversees the maintenance and development of the  Council owned woodland and summit of Orrest Head. They aim to improve the biodiversity of the habitats as well as make the woodland safely accessible to the public. They work with other bodies such as the Lake District National Park to maintain the footpaths. This group has previously had members with an interest in their work from outside the Council so if you are interested in becoming part of this advisory group please contact the clerk. There are two annual site visits in spring and autumn.

Windermere in Bloom Project Group:
Chair: Cllr Christine Hallatsch
This group organises the annual Windermere in Bloom competition. It meets in the summer to judge the gardens and organises a presentation evening in the early Autumn.

Westmorland & Furness Council Liaison Group:
Chair: Cllr Kate Tripp
This group meets every two months. It works with our local Westmorland & Furness Councillors to discuss areas where working together can help bring improvements for local residents.

Windermere Lake Water Quality Group:
Chair: Cllr Peter Cook
This group was formed to engage with the wide range of organisations with input into this issue. The aim is to seek an improvement in the quality of water in the Lake. The group will report back to the Council on actions it could take to support this aim.

Car Parking Project Group:
This group produced a detailed report into the issue of parking in Windermere & Bowness. It continues to advise the council on this issue.

Langstone House Advisory Group:
This group advises the council on the proposed plan to convert Langstone House, where the council chamber is currently, into four affordable rented flat and the associated plan to move the Council into a small purpose build council chamber.
